Everyone knows that WordPress is the most powerful blogging platform on the planet right now. We are big fans of WordPress and we do lots of custom WordPress website designs regularly, but we love to contribute to the community so we’ve updated our WordPress integration video tutorial for 2011!
Last year at this time we recorded our first WordPress integration video tutorial that showed how to integrate WordPress into any existing website. With the recent updates from WordPress many things have changed, including the default theme. The new default theme for WordPress is now TwentyTen instead of default. In addition their code has been streamlined.
Since we had many questions and some great additions from the community, we have decided to go into greater depth this time around, showing in detail how to fully integrate WordPress into your website.
This will work with any existing website you have. It does not matter if your site is HTML, Joomla, Drupal, or any other format. Simply watch the video and follow it step by step to integrate a WordPress blog easily into your site!
You should be prepared to pause the video to allow you to do the steps. We had to move quickly in order to keep it under the 15 minutes Youtube allows. By watching the video below you will be able to make WordPress match your website in under 14 minutes flat!
Please leave us a comment if you found this video useful or even if it’s just to show off your new blog that you used our video to create!
If you get stuck and need help or just want us to do it for you, simply contact us or fill out the form to your left now.
We found that the Youtube video is not the best quality. We’ve embeded the video directly below if you need one that is higher quality

Thanks. It's something we love to do for the community, your right.
I appreciate your help but as you can tell your video is poorly made. I was waiting for a more updated version of this tutorial but this video for example at 3:00 mark the screen is only showing half of what your doing. It is hard for a non wordpress fiends to know what your doing.
I had the same issue, but if you watch closely it is possible to follow it all.
Please check now. I've updated it and fixed the issue you had
I wish you made a better video, when you say for example "were gonna grab some of the old code and paste it here and there" you never mention what that code is or where to paste it.
It doesnt help that the video is cut from the left side about 20% and we cant see what your doing on that side…
Hey, many many thx for the video tutorial!!
You made my day, I don't have much knowledge of php yet, but it was enough to integrate my new blog in my new website (going live in a few days).
You rock mate!
My pleasure

Thanks for sharing your knowledge! The video/text tutorials are very helpful. Any chance you can still link to the older “default” theme video you made? It was very clear and may still be helpful when viewed in conjunction with the new one.
Thanks!
Great tutorial! It really helped me integrate my new blog into my site. Check it out.

Nice work!
Nice video – I am always surprised and pleased by just how much content designers and developers are willing to share – Thanks!
Hi there, thanks for the guidelines . I have a website where users need to register and login in order to enter data . Now , i want to integrate wordpress and give them the opportunity of a blog next to my website's services. The problem is that i don' t want to make them sign-in again. Once they have signed-into my website, they should be "already" (or so it should look like) signed-in to WordPress.
Any help on that?
I'd appreciate it!
Thank you!
Sorry never tried to do that before
Nice video tutorial! I have a question though, Where does my main websites stylesheet go? when i use the wordpress blog one it messes my websites look up.
When you create the template file it should be holding your templates href tags including the link to your templates css. You do not use the WP css for the pages you customize. Mine is set like this:
myurl/site (main site files)
myurl/blog (WP blog files)
So my css files are located in myurl/site/assets/css/style.css
So when you finish editing your WP pages your new blog header css link should look like:
http://www.yoururl.com/site/css/template.css
This of it as externally loading your css to your custom WP pages, only you are loading from a different folder on the same server.
take another look at the video. It's but updated and should be more clear now.
Today is the first time I have ever used WP and I Google'd to this page. Even though your video is cut it took me two tries to successfully accomplish this. Truthfully, it was much easier than I thought it would be, basically just hard coding over the current template with the desired one… Certainly can't do anything like this with Joomla this easily! After 1 hour and some trial and error my pages looks great.
Anyhow just wanted to say thanks for the great tut and for saving me time. Good work.
I'm glad to hear it worked out for you. Thanks to Google for indexing and ranking this post
Whilst I am still having some style issues the main thing is that wordpress i snow intergrated into my maiun site. Whilst I echo what others have said about the video, it is possible as I have managed it and didnt have a clue before.
This is exactly what I was looking for I just wish I could follow this. Relatively new to WP and it's hard to follow this without seeing your entire screen. For example, where exactly do we paste the code? "Paste it in" isn't very helpful!!
Appreciate the time you put into this I'll wait for the update though!
@3:20 "go into header.php and paste it in"
Paste it where? Does anything need to remain? Should it overwrite everything? Confused, thanks!
got it thanks! great video!
Okay, I am going nuts here. I am very confused and have been trying to do this for two weeks to no avail..if someone can throw me a bone and just send me a twenty ten template that has been modified to match their existing website that I can cut and paste into, I would really appreciate it
me too!!
You are my hero!!! This worked great the first time, which I was not expecting. Thanks for the help.
Brilliant article. Ok the video cut off a bit of the screen but you can work out what gets cut and pasted ok. My site now up and running with an embedded blog…great!
I need some help! I have followed the instructions just about and got the blog part looking OK. However, when I click on the post title or add a comment etc, it just resolves to my home page. I am not sure if I need to create 'pages' to go one level deeper than the blog page?
Anyway, all my links don't seem to do anything and I have no comments working etc.
Any help?
Thanks
Thank-you so much for this video! It has helped me a lot.
I have one problem, the writing for the body is going over the sidebar. Have you seen this before? I've tried setting the div to a shorter width in index.php but it just ignores this!
I can get it to recognise other changes in the index.php file but not this!
Thanks again,
Louise.
Thanks for the tutorial. I must admit I had to watch a few times before I figured everything out. I am going to produce am instructional PDF now that I have figured it out. It should help those of us who are a little slower with the whole coding process.
Hey Anthony did you ever put together the PDF because I'm having a really hard time figuring this video out? Thanks, Jerald
Thanks very much! This video was really helpful!
You can see my integration at ConnectingSingleParents.com/blog!
Well done.
Hello,is it possible to integrate a wordpress blog with a website created with html.If yes, could you please send me the steps or video tutorial.
That is the point of this tutorial…integrating WP into a basic website. It doesn't matter if it is HTML, PHP, or ASP because you are more or less redirecting from your site to the WP files. The only difference is as noted above, your html site files will reside in your root or its own folder, and the WP install in it's own folder, however you want to organize it. WP is written in PHP, no way around that. But, the video above explains how to do so from start to finish and it works seamlessly. HTML isn't suited for handling things like blogs or any dynamically driven applications, you need a server-side script.
Really nice tutorial (despite the truncated screen
). I really need your help though. I have an error in my header.php – line 12 and can't figure it out.
At 2'50 you say, to copy / paste the the header. What is the header exactly ? is this all that is included in the head part (between <head> and </head>)? Or is it for the beginning to the end of the last section of the horizontal menu (after a </div>) ?
Thanks for your help…I only have a few hair on my head now …!
Having trouble with a few errors on my site after finishing the video.

Any ideas? Im sure its a path thing.
Did you get this sorted out? I've updated the video and it's crystal clear now. you may want to give it a look now as it will make sure you 100% have no issues if you follow it.
Great tutorial – got it after a couple tries. This is such a great idea!
Thanks for a great video. I’m basically clueless about php, but between this and your earlier tutorial –(countless viewings!) I was actually able to get my site going.
The only trouble I had was when I decided to add a secondary sidebar several divs below the first one. I couldn’t get them to stop duplicating categories. No matter what I did in the admin panel, the blogroll kept showing up in both sidebars. I finally pasted ALL the coding from sidebar.php for both the primary and secondary sidebars – and it worked!
Thanks again! No way I could have figured everything out without your help.
Hey view it again. It's been updated and should be crystal clear now.
This is a really excellent video, but unfortunately it looses teh left hand side so it is really difficult to follow which code is being cut and to where it is being pasted. For me that makes it impossible to follow with confidence. I am sorry.
Is a version of this available where we can see teh whole of the code as it is cur?
Thanks
Great Tutorial
Really helped me out.
I agree with John.
The fact that you are sharing this website design knowledge for free shows that you are truly at the forefront of today's blogoshpere.
Thanks!
Awesome Video! Video tutorial made the process very simple to understand. Even newbie can integrate wordpress into any website easily watching video tutorial.
It sure would be nice if this video was re-created with better step by step instructions.
Many times you say "cut this and put it here", but nothing saying exactly what to cut and where to exactly put it.
I figured out most of this by zooming in on the video and looking at what text was shown. Unfortunately, the left and right of the screen are clipped off, so I'm only guessing at where to actually clip and place the text.
In my attempt, I was only able to get the sidebar to appear, but none of the posts.
Eventually I gave up and used the older tutorial at http://www.burnseo.com/blog/2009/10/23/integrate-… which even has a few typos. It still works with the newer install of WP.
hello there. looks like a nice article to me. bookmarking it and will read for sure.
Thanks for the tutorial. I've got it working, however I'm having one issue. On the supporting pages, I'm getting this directing below the comment area field:
"You may use these HTML tags and attributes: <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <blockquote cite=""> <cite> <code> <del datetime=""> <q cite="">
"Can't seem to find where this is being added. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
What if i have a php code in my web? when i view source it doesnt show the php code.
Hi sounds good but I am having difficulty.
I tried it with the original article using the default theme and have some Q's, as I can't get the page to load when its live.
If my originalweb page is made up of nested tables, will it work with me splitting the table code over the header/index/footer pages? IE the header finishes with </tr> and the index starts <tr> etc?
Or does div tags for positioning have to be used?
Thanks
Dickie
Thank you so much! The video is awesome! Thanks to you I integrated wordpress into my website successfully. =)
First, thank tremendously for posting the video. The process has been tedious, but effective., as I am PHP clueless at this point. The Home Page, and Archives pages are rendering perfectly.
My challenge is this: Content of the Posts are above the page container, rather than inside. I used the same coding/template as with the other pages, but for reasons that I do not understand, this continues to occur exclusively with Postings. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Template may be viewed at http :www.HillmanB2.com/nonprofit
Hii, many many thankx for the video tutorial!!
I don't have much knowledge of php yet, but it was enough to integrate my new blog in my new website .
Thanx for the help.
Is there a way possible to only add the loop onto my homepage? I don't want to integrate wordpress as a whole.
Very helpful indeed, I think it's a great video. Thanks for the share !
I was able to get everything integrated but am having problems with the Posts pages and the comments page. For some reason it is placing the post above the header on both the individual posts and the comments page. I pasted the code the same way I did the archives
